Adoption Timeline

Lilypie Waiting to Adopt tickers
  • Sunday, September 11, 2011: We found out about YOU! at church when Don Riley was sharing that you were able to be adopted.
  • Wednesday, November 16, 2011: We found out you were still able to be adopted! Don Riley sent us an e-mail that we discovered we had when we got in bed that night. Grant saw the e-mail and told Colista to look at it too. We fell in love with you again.
  •  Friday, November 18, 2011: Colista talked to our agency's I*d*a Adoption Program Coordinator, and we told her we wanted to adopt you.
  • Tuesday, November 22, 2011: We OFFICIALLY applied with our agency to be approved into their adoption program. We passed! ;)
  • December 7, 2011: We decided on which home study agency to use.
  • December 9, 2011: Filled out initial application for home study agency.
  • December 14, 2011: Application received and pre-application approved by home study agency.
  • Saturday December 17, 2011: We mailed back our contract packet to our agency. This required quite a bit of paperwork, but nothing compared to what was to come! ;) (dossier!)
  • December 22, 2011: First visit with home study assessor. Lots of paperwork done throughout this period for our dossier, and home study. Home study paperwork was pretty simple because we had done many of the same things for our foster care home study.
  • January 22, 2012: 2nd visit with our home study assessor. Wait. Wait. Waiting….for home study to be drafted.
  • Wednesday, February 8th, 2012: We FINALLY received our rough draft of home study. Within hours, we had sent our assessor back the corrections, and were waiting on our adoption agency to send their approval so the study could be finalized.
  •  Tuesday, March 27, 2012: Our adoption agency mailed our application for 1-800A to USCIS.
  • Saturday, April 7, 2012: Received confirmation from USCIS that our application has been received.
  • Friday, April 20, 2012: Received our fingerprint appointments for USCIS, and also a request for more information to confirm that a Hague accredited agency reviewed our home study.
  • Tuesday, May 1, 2012: Received call from our agency saying that there was an urgent request to submit our dossier by that same Friday or Saturday.
  • Wednesday, May 2, 2012: Started final dossier prep, went to the courthouses (Miami and Mont.) to get notary authentications, picked up updated home study, and went to Secretary of State’s office to get dossier docs apostilled.
  • Thursday, May 3, 2012: Went early for our biometrics appointment to Columbus and submitted fingerprints for USCIS. They were so nice and got us right in when we walked in.
  • Friday, May 4, 2012: OFFICIAL REFERRAL RECEIVED!!!! Went back to Secretary of State to get the rest of our docs apostilled, and get another updated home study. Also, got child study notarized and apostilled.
